Grandpa's bucket list

Our first day with Grandpa!

Today we took in a new house-mate. We got Grandpa! After living with Brent and Barb the past couple of years, he has moved over to our side of town. Brent has taken a job somewhere up north, Wyoming, Montana, somewhere up where's it's cold, brrrrr, and Grandpa decided he wanted to stay warm in Arizona, so here we are! We are so thankful for Brent and Barb for taking such good care of him and we are excited to have him here with us.

He has settled into his new room, and seems quite comfortable. Not to be outdone by his previous care-givers, I decided to start on his "bucket list" right away. Fried oysters for lunch!!! He told me last summer when I asked him what things he would like to do before he leaves this earth that he wanted to get some good fried oysters. So, Randi and I took him to a great seafood restaurant in San Diego to fulfill that wish. Unfortunately, he does not remember a thing about the meal. (Subsequently, we had to take him to Scripps Hospital for a possible TIA and lots of tests and scans). He did eat the plate of oysters, but to this day says he didn't!
So, even though we have photographic proof of the plate of fried oysters, he still denies ever having them! So, voila! oysters for lunch. And, he even told Greg about them when he came home from work. (So it's official, #1 is checked off the list!)
Grandpa has all the amenities he wants .... cable TV, computer, genealogy stuff, blankets, remote control, snacks, pictures of mom, and Angela (his favorite care-taker) coming to fix him breakfast every morning.

Before settling in for the night, he even got warm cookies and milk. Talk about getting spoiled
Well, I told him it can only go down from here, but we'll continue to try to make him comfortable and happy and enjoy every minute we have to spend with our great patriarch and father until he seeks better digs somewhere else!

  2. We miss him, I am so sad he won't come with me! But, I have been so ill the last ten months, I have failed horribly in the cookie department. I am SO grateful that you are able to take such good care of my Sir, if you add beans and cornbread to the menu, he will never leave! (He has been asking for cookies, yeah for you!)
